"The Roots of Dentistry" is a fascinating history of dentistry, from the third millennium BC to the present day - from caries in Ancient Egypt to toothdrawers in the Middle Ages, from modern high tech dentsitry to the latest changes in the National Health Service. Topics include dentures through the ages and the agonies of tooth extraction in the days before anaesthetics.
The book is lavishly illustrated with both colour and black and white photographs, showing many items from the British Dental Association Museum and the Wellcome Museum for the History of Medicine, historic cartoons and book titles. You certainly don't need to be a dentist - this book will be compulsive reading for anyone interested in the history of dentistry.
"The Roots of Dentistry" has been compiled by members of the Lindsay Society, using both primary sources and new research.
