Comment : I have found this book to be an interesting account of American dentists at war. The book is well laid out and the list of conclusions (Chapter XII) very useful. The American history of the UNIONISTS and the CONFEDERATES, and their comparative dentistry will no doubt appeal more to those "Over the Pond". The background of the treatment by the Japanese to Prisoners of War was fascinating, and the continual lobbying to enable compensation for those who were captured and suffered shows the American appreciation of their Military Forces. A lot of the historical dental developments mirror those of the UK both in time and materials. I was surprised that more reference was not made to the American Goodyear brothers who introduced the use of Vulcanite rubber for dentures in the 1840s. Altogether a readable concise little book.
