Leonie von Zesch graduated as a dental surgeon from California's College of Physicians and Surgeons. She started out as a dentist in San Francisco and as a result of the earthquake and fire ended up helping the army as an emergency dentist on the ground. For a short time she helped set up dental services in the US Navy Pacific and Atlantic fleets in the area. Later travels to Texas, the Middle East and Europe followed as well as 15 years in Alaska.
